DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD

JUNE 16, DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD

HOW TO PRAY FOR AND REACH THE AFRICAN CHILD WITH THE GOSPEL

Today, June 16, marks the Day of the African Child—a day of remembrance, but also of urgent reflection.

This day was established in 1991 by the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union, to honor the memory of the children of Soweto, South Africa, who were killed on June 16, 1976, while peacefully protesting for their right to fair and quality education.

Today, 49 years later, millions of African children still suffer: poverty, violence, abuse, exploitation, rejection, ignorance.

But their greatest distress is spiritual: many do not know God’s love or the truth of the Gospel.

WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY!

Jesus said:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.”

Luke 18:16

Children need salvation, listening ears, teaching, and prayer.

They are not the Church of tomorrow, they are the Church of today!

HOW TO REACH THEM?

1. THROUGH PRAYER:

Let us pray for their protection, education, healing, and destiny in Christ.

2. THROUGH CHILD-FRIENDY EVANGELISM:

Use Bible stories, songs, games, and visual tools suited to their age.

3. THROUGH PRACTICAL LOVE:

Let’s show Jesus’ love through concrete actions: listening, help, care, and training.

Let’s speak up and act against any form of harm done to children.

A CALL TO THE CHURCH:

Let us rise daily for Africa’s children!

May intercessors stand! May pastors make room for children—

by building schools, rehabilitation centers for vulnerable children, orphanages,

and creating programs tailored to their development.

Let us petition authorities to enforce child protection laws.

God hears the cries of African children

Genesis 21:17🙏🏾

Lord Jesus,

You love the children of Africa.

Today, we stand in the gap for them.

Protect them, deliver them, restore them.

Give your Church compassion, strategy, and boldness to reach them.

We declare that Africa will not abandon its children to darkness,

but raise them in the light of Christ!

AMEN.

MARANATHA,

Come, Lord Jesus.
